I am delighted to announce that Nicholas Hindley has received a Fulbright Future Scholarship to further his studies at the Harvard Medical School – Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST).

The 2020 Fulbright FUTURE Scholarship, will enable Nicholas to join a Centre for Machine Learning in the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.

The centre is jointly run by the Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST).

Nicholas Hindley’s Academic Record

Nicholas’ achievements up until this point have been:

2008 -2011: 

Bachelor of Advanced Science, Chemistry and Pharmacology. He received the UNSW Dean’s List Award for outstanding Research, Spruson and Ferguson Scholarship for Innovation in Applied Science, Children’s Cancer Institute Honours Scholarship;

2015 – 2017:

Bachelor of Arts, Mathematics and Philosophy, University of Sydney and received an ACRF Image X Institute Mathematics in Medicine Scholarship;

2018 – 2021:

Postgraduate PhD student studying at the ACRF Image X Institute.

Nicholas has continued to receive support from Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend.

His ACRF Image X Postgraduate Research Supplementary Scholarship is for Deep Learning for Imaging the Human Anatomy, Cancer Research Network Travel Grant.

Nicholas’ current PhD studies at the Image X Institute are on the use of medical image analysis, signal processing and machine learning to achieve real-time volumetric imaging. Nicholas is monitoring lung motion during radiotherapy by tracking the patient’s diaphragm. This would assist the technical problem of tracking the tumour during the X-ray beam exposure. In between his thesis work, he is lecturing in the statistics and data science programs at the University of Sydney
